When we walk the Spiritual Path we often use expressions that give the impression that we are in control, such as:
- I Meditated into the Light.
- I became the Sound.
- I attained Enlightenment.
The Truth is that we are not in control. When we receive the Initiation we are made aware of the Spiritual Energies which then act as our Guides and Teachers. We turn up on the cushion and if we manage to concentrate we are taken on a Journey and shown the Wonders of the Light and Sound.
It is as if we are a vehicle with no steering wheel, no accelerator, no gears and definitely no sat nav! The only thing we have is a brake which is generally engaged. When we learn to trust and let go, we have the confidence to release the “brake” little by little.
It is only when we allow this to happen that we are propelled into the beautiful Mysteries of the Spiritual Realms. Meditators take time to realize this and think that there is some method or formula they can employ to walk the Path and in particular attain States of Consciousness. The Truth is that they only get in the way and apply the “brake”.
What is required is the ability to let go and trust that the Light and Sound will do its job and guide them along the Way. This, for some people, can be very scary as they are happiest when they think they are in control. This approach can work well in the World but not on the cushion.
When a person first discovers the Path it is natural for them to ask a multitude of questions. This enables them to build up a model of the Higher Dimensions and gives them a sense of understanding. As we walk the Path we soon Realize that there is no place for intellect in Meditation. Quite the reverse, intellect will only trip us up and once again apply the “brake’.
Obviously a system that allows us to communicate our experiences to other people is useful but that is as far as it should go. It should remain a model; it is not the Truth. The Truth has to be experienced and witnessed first hand; it can never be encapsulated in a text book.
Another important consideration is attitude. Simplicity, and Humility are qualities that will help align the Seeker with the Energies and the Hierarchy Themselves. The Goal of the Path is Oneness; what could possibly be simpler than that? When we demonstrate Humility we open up a space within us that will allow the Spiritual Hierarchy an opportunity to Nurture us.
Finally, the Essence of the Path, its very Nature, is Love. By trying to reflect Love into the World we begin to dissolve the boundary between Spirit and matter. This we realize is merely an illusion born out of ignorance. Each of us incarnates into this ignorance but fortunately for some of us we have been shown the way out! Let us share this knowledge with the people around us and make a real difference to the Consciousness of this Planet.
